Trademarks

Better Business Bureau, BBB, BBB AUTO LINE, BBBOnLine, and BBB logos are service marks owned by the Council of Better Business Bureaus, Inc. (CBBB). These marks may be used, with certain restrictions, by BBBs and eligible companies participating in BBB programs under a license agreement. Members and companies interested in licensing a logo for its use should contact their BBB for program information and advertising guidelines. Any use of these marks by others must be with the express permission of the CBBB.  It is CBBB policy to take action against all unauthorized use of its marks.

In most instances, when we advise a company that it is misusing or infringing on our trademarks, the company readily complies with our request to modify its advertising or web site. From time to time, however, CBBB has had to sue infringers. We also try to advise the public about companies that continue without authorization to use our marks. The internet has made this easier.

Violators
We now have a list on our web site of companies that do not have our permission to use our marks and have refused to comply with repeated requests to stop using them. Please note that this list does not include every company misusing or infringing on our marks, but only those we have contacted many times about their misuse or infringement.

Below are companies that are falsely conveying an affiliation with or sponsorship by the BBB through unauthorized use of its trademarks. These businesses have ignored numerous and repeated requests to modify their advertising or web site by eliminating use of BBB trademarks. Company name: Loc Tite Interlocking, Inc.
Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario, CANADA

Problem: Loc Tite Interlocking offers stone setting services in the Toronto, Markham and Richmond Hill areas. Loc Tite Interlocking has been repeatedly asked to remove the CBBB's trademarks from its print advertising and has refused to do so. Company name: Good Life Publishing

Problem: This company, operated by Greg Howell, operates an advertising-direct mail, business opportunity business. This company displays the BBB TORCH Logo and the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU name in its printed advertisements and business solicitation. Good Life Publishing has been asked on more than one occasion to remove the CBBB's trademark from its advertising. Consumers should be aware that this business is not in any way affiliated with the BBB system.

Problem: This company offers web hosting and domain registration services. Hyperactive Inc. is falsely claiming BBB membership in various Internet postings. Previously, this company was falsely implying BBB affiliation by its unauthorized use of a BBB report on its web site. Upon request from CBBB, the company removed this report from its site but continues to state that it has a satisfactory rating with the BBB. The company has been asked on more than one occasion to remove the reference to its BBB record from its web site. This company is not a BBB member. Consumers should be aware that this business is not in any way affiliated with the BBB.

Company name: Better Business Reviews
Location: Southern California

Problem: This site purports to review products and services sold on the Internet and sell listings of government auto auction bargains and government grants. Better Business Reviews has been repeatedly asked by the CBBB to cease use of this trade name and has refused to do so. Better Business Reviews previously operated under the web site www.betterbusinessreviews.org. At CBBB's request, this web site was disabled by the Internet Service Provider because the domain name was confusingly similar to CBBB trademarks. However, the companies chose to reopen its web site under www.betterbusinessratings.org, thus continuing to use "better business" despite CBBB concerns. Further investigation has revealed that the owner of this web site is connected to Direct One Communications and Direct American Marketers both of which have been the subject of legal actions filed by Attorney Generals in twenty-nine states. Both companies have unsatisfactory ratings with the BBB due to patterns of unanswered complaints. Consumers should be aware that this business is not in any way affiliated with or sponsored by the BBB system.
