Attn: Businesses - Beware of Fire Extinguisher Scam

1/21/2008

The London Police Department is warning businesses of a Fire Extinguisher Scam that is targeting businesses in London, Woodstock, Sarnia, and Windsor. The scam takes place when a person pretending to be an employee of a Fire Protection company advises staff that he is at the place of business to do a fire extinguisher inspection. Occasionally the suspect will switch out the extinguisher; however, after the “inspection” takes place the suspect will request payment of approx $80.00 to $85.00. Often staff will pay the suspect out of their till.

The suspect is described as a white male, stocky, 200+lbs, shaggy dirty blonde hair and wearing jeans, white shoes, plaid shirt, and a black coat.

If your company is approached by an individual fitting this description, attempting this scam; please contact the London Police Department at 519-661-5674.
